The Vienna Town Green hosts a free evening of New Orleans-style jazz Friday, when the U.S. Army Blues Swamp Romp takes the stage at 6:30 p.m. as part of the town's Summer on the Green concert series.
The eight-piece ensemble, part of the United States Army Band "Pershing's Own," specializes in Cajun and New Orleans-style jazz and has performed traditional jazz and folk music of Louisiana for almost two decades. The group represents the Army's premier jazz outfit, the U.S. Army Blues, which traces its roots to 1970.
The Town of Vienna announced the show on its official social media Thursday, encouraging residents to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket. The concert runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 144 Maple Avenue East, on the 2.25-acre green at the intersection of Maple Avenue, the W&OD Trail, and Mill Street.
Alcohol is not permitted. The town also asks concertgoers to leave pets at home.
The Summer on the Green series runs on select Fridays from June through mid-August, with each show lasting about 90 minutes. This season opened June 5 and has already featured the Sarah Swanner Band, 2nd Sole, The Cassaday Concoction and Fat Chance.
Two concerts remain this season after the July 31 show:
- Friday, Aug. 7 — The Maiden Band
- Friday, Aug. 14 — U.S. Navy Commodores (the season finale)
For weather cancellations, residents can call 703-255-7842 or check the town's social media accounts.
