Fairfax County Public Schools is accepting public comments through Monday, Sept. 7 on a new Memorandum of Understanding with the Fairfax County Police Department governing school resource officers at local schools including James Madison High.

FCPS Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid joined special education department chairs at a summer training academy at Herndon High School on Aug. 1, as the district prepares staff who coordinate IEP and 504 services across its schools before classes resume.

At least eight Vienna-area arts nonprofits received FY27 operating support grants from ArtsFairfax as part of a $601,900 countywide allocation that grew $10,000 over last year and reached nine more organizations.

FCPS will screen all spectators with weapons detection technology at varsity football games this fall, including at James Madison and Oakton, and enforce a clear-bag-only policy; the district also banned personal devices during school hours and adopted new physical math textbooks for grades 6-12.

Vienna's Jake Lopes represented Team Virginias at the 44th Carolinas-Virginias Junior Boys' Team Matches, taking his singles match to the 18th hole before Team Carolinas clinched an 11–5 victory at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, N.C.
