Vienna-area neighborhoods joined more than 140 communities across Fairfax County for National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, as Fairfax County Police Department officers visited block parties, cookouts and family gatherings throughout the evening.

The Town of Vienna falls within the FCPD's McLean District Station service area, and officers from stations across the county visited events between 4 and 9 p.m.

FCPD Chief of Police Kevin Davis kicked off the evening at an ice cream social at The Mather in Tysons. From there, officers spread to events county-wide, taking turns in dunk tanks, playing soccer with kids, posing for photos, sharing meals and fielding questions from families.

The department posted updates throughout the night on X, including a shot of Reston District Station officers gathering for roll call before heading into their communities. Fairfax County Police said on X that the evening brought good weather and memorable moments that reinforced the value of the annual event.

National Night Out is held the first Tuesday each August to build ties between law enforcement and residents. The FCPD's recap, published Wednesday, Aug. 5, highlighted partnerships that contribute to public safety across the county and directed residents to the department's Flickr page for event photos.

We reported July 28 that the registration deadline for Vienna-area neighborhoods to sign up had arrived, with FCPD and public safety partners scheduled to visit that evening. Tuesday's turnout confirmed the event went forward as planned.

Residents who want to connect with the FCPD's McLean District Station can visit the Fairfax County Police Department website. The next National Night Out is scheduled for the first Tuesday of August 2027.
