Vienna residents looking to clear out closets and help neighbors stay warm this winter can bring coats to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18.

The parish at 8601 Wolftrap Road is collecting new or gently used, clean winter coats before and after all Masses that weekend. Only winter coats will be accepted, according to the church. Other clothing and accessories should not be included.

Donated coats will be carried across the parking lot to St. Joseph Center, an on-campus facility, where volunteers will sort them into labeled bags. The church is asking for help with three tasks: receiving donations at the drop-off point, transporting coats to St. Joseph Center and sorting them by size and type.

Parents and youth are welcome to volunteer. A sign-up form is available through the church's website at olgcva.org.

The drive is one of the parish's monthly outreach efforts, each focused on a different cause throughout the year. October's focus is winter coats.

Residents who want to donate should plan to arrive before or after any Mass on Oct. 17 or Oct. 18. The church has not published specific Mass times for that weekend on its coat drive page, so donors should check with the parish office at (703) 938-2828 for the current schedule.
