A townhouse fire in Merrifield, about four miles east of Vienna, and a powerful storm that downed trees across Fairfax County kept fire and rescue crews busy overnight on Monday.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to reports of a townhouse fire in the 3000 block of Ellenwood Drive just before 2 a.m., the department said in a Facebook post. Arriving crews found fire coming from the rear of the home.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and searched the townhouse. All occupants had gotten out before crews arrived, and no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
Social media users chimed in on the discussion online, sharing their experiences with the blaze as Merrifield residents.
"I live at an intersection with Ellenwood. I heard a loud boom just before 2:00AM. The windows rattled. Two minutes later I heard sirens and these brave firefighters were on the scene. At least six fire trucks arrived. Anxious to hear what the cause was. Glad to hear no one was hurt!" said one commenter.
"I made the 911 call and am so grateful to the 911 operator and the incredibly fast work of the firefighters to get that under control!" added another.
