A man died Thursday, Sept. 3, after a tour bus collapsed on him in the Filene Center parking lot at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna.

U.S. Park Police said officers responded around 5 p.m. to 1551 Trap Road after a support apparatus holding up the bus failed. The worker was underneath the bus at the time, according to the agency's statement.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, sources told FOX 5 DC. WUSA9, citing Park Police, identified the victim as male.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) also responded, dispatching units and a medic to the scene, according to scanner traffic reported by FFXnow. FCFRD crews remained on site until Park Police took over.

Police have not released the worker's name, age or employer. The cause of the apparatus failure has not been disclosed, and no details about a pending investigation had been announced as of Thursday evening.

Show canceled, venue reopens Friday

Wolf Trap announced on its website and social media pages around 7 p.m. Thursday that the evening's performance was canceled. The venue said an accident involving a community member had resulted in a loss of life.

Squeeze, Adam Ant and Haircut 100 were scheduled to take the Filene Center stage at 7:30 p.m. No rescheduled date has been announced.

FOX 5 DC reported that some concertgoers lingered in the parking lot after the cancellation. Many told the station they believed the venue made the right call.

The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, which manages programming at the venue, directed further questions to U.S. Park Police.

Wolf Trap's Filene Center schedule showed the venue reopening Friday, Sept. 4, for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring members of The Jerry Garcia Band and the National Symphony Orchestra, with guests including Grahame Lesh and Kanika Moore.
