Mayor Linda Colbert led a monthly Mayor's Walk of 15 neighbors through the backyard garden of Miguel and Wanpen Ordonez on Wednesday.
The Ordonez's shared samples of fresh produce and a walking tour of the sustainable garden they tend year-round at their Vienna home. The town has called the garden "award-winning" in multiple official posts.
The monthly Mayor's Walk is a program that takes residents through Vienna neighborhoods for informal conversation. The walk began at 9:30 a.m., and the Town of Vienna said space was limited to 15 participants, with preference given to first-time visitors.
Miguel Ordonez serves on the Town of Vienna's Conservation and Sustainability Commission, according to the town's website. The couple has described their garden as a "labor of love" in a Town of Vienna YouTube episode posted after a previous Mayor's Walk in July of last year. That earlier visit marked the first time the Ordonez home appeared on the program.
This is not the first time the garden has drawn a crowd. The Wednesday walk was the second Mayor's Walk to feature the Ordonez property in roughly a year, a sign of sustained community interest in what the couple is growing.
How to join a Mayor's Walk
The Mayor's Walk is open to Vienna residents. To sign up for future walks, email [email protected] or call 703-255-6311, according to the town's social media posts.
