James Triantos, who grew up in Vienna and led James Madison High School to the 2021 Virginia Class 6 state baseball championship as a two-way senior star, made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, July 25, against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He singled in his first at-bat.

Triantos, 23, became the sixth former Warhawk to reach the majors, according to Augusta Free Press. No Virginia high school has produced more big leaguers than Madison. The fifth was Bryce Eldridge, who broke in with the San Francisco Giants in September 2025.

The Cubs called up Triantos from their Triple-A affiliate, the Iowa Cubs, after he posted a .306 batting average with 32 extra-base hits, 52 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in the minors this season. Chicago drafted him in the second round, 56th overall, out of Madison in 2021.

That same senior year, Triantos carried the Warhawks to the state title in what Patch's Vienna AM newsletter called "a dominant two-way championship performance." Madison won again in 2023 behind Eldridge, a first-round pick that June.

The program now claims six Virginia state baseball crowns under head coach Mark "Pudge" Gjormand, who was inducted into the national high school baseball coaches Hall of Fame in 2021 and notched his 400th career win during the 2025-26 season. Madison's other MLB alumni include Mike Wallace, Jay Franklin, Bob Brower, and Jim McNamara.

Triantos is now on the Cubs' 26-man active roster.
