A Herndon man charged with striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene in Reston in 2014 is back in custody after spending more than a decade as a fugitive, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Monday.

U.S. Marshals apprehended Enda Browne, 43, at Dulles International Airport on Thursday, June 26. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a felony hit-and-run charge stemming from the original 2014 crash.

The 2014 crash

On Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014, at approximately 6:29 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Reston Parkway and Spectrum Center Drive for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Detectives from the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit determined Browne was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion southbound on Reston Parkway when he hit an adult female pedestrian crossing the road at Spectrum Center Drive, then fled.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She survived.

Arrest, release, and flight

After the crash, police located Browne and the vehicle. He was arrested, charged with felony hit-and-run, and released from the Adult Detention Center.

Browne was due in court on Monday, June 8, 2015. He never appeared.

FCPD said it was later learned he had fled the country. The department has not disclosed where Browne went or how he returned to the United States.

Apprehension at Dulles

On June 26, FCPD detectives were notified that the U.S. Marshals Service had Browne in custody at Dulles Airport. He was transported to the Adult Detention Center and held without bond. A court date has not been announced.

Under Virginia Code § 46.2-894, felony hit-and-run involving injury is a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500.
