A Fairfax man who ran a youth soccer academy has been charged with scamming more than a dozen families out of nearly $60,000 by promising a travel summer camp in Italy that never happened.
Ahmed Mohamed, 31, faces 13 counts of embezzlement and 13 counts of computer fraud, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Tuesday. He was arrested June 30 in the 4100 block of Monument Court near Fairfax Towne Center.
Mohamed created the "Sporting Soccer Academy" in December 2025 and advertised a travel soccer camp in Italy, collecting payments for travel, lodging and camp arrangements that police say were fabricated. Individual victims lost between $2,000 and $12,000 each.
FCPD said Mohamed used his role with the Alexandria Soccer Association to target some of his victims, according to the department's announcement. The Alexandria Soccer Association is a nonprofit that serves roughly 7,500 participants across Northern Virginia, including families in the Fairfax County corridor.
The alleged offenses took place between November 2025 and March 2026, according to court records.
The investigation began after a tip came in June 25 through FCPD's Financial Crimes Online Reporting system, known as FiCOR. Detectives from the Financial Crimes Unit built the case within five days before making the arrest.
Mohamed was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and later released on his own recognizance. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2 in Fairfax County General District Court.
