The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department is preparing to put two new ambulances into service by the end of 2026, the department announced Oct. 25.

VVFD members spent several weeks conducting pre-delivery inspections of the units, designated Ambulance 402 and Medic 402, according to a department post. Both are built on Ford F550 chassis and will include automatic loading and unloading systems.

Demers built Ambulance 402. Horton built Medic 402.

The two units will be staffed differently. Ambulance 402 will be crewed entirely by VVFD volunteers. Medic 402 will be staffed by career firefighters and paramedics from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, supplemented by VVFD volunteers.

Both ambulances are expected to arrive in Fairfax County toward the end of the year, the department said, though no specific delivery date has been announced. The VVFD described the units as carrying "the most modern technology and equipment," including the automatic loading systems.

Once in service, both units will provide emergency medical response to the Town of Vienna and Fairfax County, the department said. The announcement did not say whether the ambulances replace existing units in the fleet or represent net additions.

Residents who need to reach the VVFD can call the non-emergency line at 703-938-2070 or dial 911 in an emergency.
