A 60-year-old woman was found dead from a gunshot wound inside a home in the Fair Oaks area Sunday night. Her husband is currently in police custody, Fairfax County police confirmed.
Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 10:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of Washington Brice Road and found the woman already dead inside the residence, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The victim's husband, 64-year-old Leland Jameson, was detained at the scene and has been charged with her murder.
"The investigation is ongoing, but we do have a suspect obtained and there are no outstanding parties," FCPD Deputy Chief Brendan Hooke, commander of the major crimes bureau, said in a video posted to social media. "Please contact our Crime Solvers if you have any information."
Scanner traffic indicated Jameson also called 911 after an initial call, reporting "a dispute with his wife." That detail comes from scanner audio, not an official police statement.
The department initially described the case as a "death investigation" in a post on X early Monday morning, noting that an adult male was "being interviewed by detectives." The classification was later updated to a homicide investigation.
What we don't know
FCPD has not announced a timeline for charges, a press conference, or a court appearance. The investigation remains active under the major crimes bureau.
