The Virginia Arts Society's Art Center on Church Street hosts free drop-in studio sessions every Wednesday afternoon, open to artists at any skill level.

The Open Studio sessions run from 1 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday and on the final Friday of every month at 243 Church St. NW, Suite 100LL, in the lower level of the Windover Professional Building. No registration or fee is required, according to a Patch calendar listing posted Aug. 27 by community contributor Irma Gennaro.

Each week's format varies. Sessions may feature a copyist project, a still life or open time for personal work. Participants bring their own supplies; VAS provides easels.

Gennaro described the sessions as a place to "enjoy making art with your fellow artists" regardless of medium or experience.
