Fairfax County Police arrested a 19-year-old Herndon man and seized roughly 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills and a firearm after an undercover operation in Chantilly.

Alhaji Sorie Kamara agreed to trade 50 suspected fentanyl pills for a gun with an undercover detective, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Detectives from the department's Violent Crimes Suppression Unit (VCS) began investigating suspected narcotics and firearms distribution on Oct. 5.

On Oct. 10, investigators arranged to meet Kamara in Chantilly for the exchange. When he arrived, officers attempted to take him into custody. He tried to flee in his vehicle but was quickly apprehended, police said.

A search of Kamara's vehicle turned up approximately 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills, a firearm with an extended magazine and an auto sear. The haul dwarfed the 50 pills he had initially offered to trade.

Kamara was charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule I/II narcotics, possession of a firearm while distributing Schedule I/II narcotics, possession of an auto sear and carrying a loaded firearm in certain localities. He was held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on a $5,000 secured bond.
