Families can ride a cone course, get helmets fitted and pick up bike safety tips at a free police-hosted event in Vienna on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The Vienna Police Department and Herndon Police Department are co-hosting the "Two Towns Bike Rodeo" from 9 a.m. to noon at 138 Church St. NE. The departments are inviting residents to bring their own bikes and spend the morning with officers from both towns.

The Vienna Police Department announced the event on X on Monday, Aug. 31, describing the rodeo as a chance for families to meet officers, ask questions and learn about bike and e-bike safety. The Herndon Police Department shared the announcement the same day.

Activities include a bike cone course, helmet fittings and road-safety tips. Several community partners will also be on site, according to the announcement. NOVA Parks, Trek Bikes and the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail were tagged in the post, though the department did not confirm which partners will attend in person.

The rodeo follows a separate Herndon e-bike information session scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 9, reflecting both departments' focus on e-bike safety this fall. Herndon Police Chief Steven Pihonak said in an Aug. 27 FFXnow piece tied to that session, "Understanding e-bike classifications and trail rules is key to keeping everyone safe." He encouraged parents and riders to ask questions and get answers directly from officers and community partners.

The Two Towns Bike Rodeo is free. No registration is required.
