A 32-year-old Alexandria woman faces drug possession and public intoxication charges after Vienna police found her passed out in her vehicle in a Maple Avenue parking lot, as first reported by Patch.
The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the 7-Eleven at 427 Maple Ave., according to Patch, citing the Vienna Police Department. An officer spotted a suspicious vehicle in the store's parking lot. The driver appeared heavily intoxicated and evaded questioning when roused, police told Patch.
Medication that did not belong to the woman was in plain view inside the vehicle.
The woman was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance and public intoxication, according to the department's account to Patch. The specific substance was not identified in the report.
Under federal drug classification, Schedule I substances have no accepted medical use and carry a high potential for abuse. Schedule II substances may have legitimate medical applications but are still considered dangerous and carry the same high abuse potential. Virginia law treats possession of either category as a serious offense.
The woman's name has not been released publicly. No information about a court date appeared in the Patch report.
The 7-Eleven sits along Vienna's main commercial corridor, a stretch of Maple Avenue that sees steady foot and vehicle traffic into the late evening hours.
