The Vienna Community Center shut its doors to all programs, classes, open gym and events Monday, Aug. 24, and won't reopen until Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The two-week closure at 120 Cherry St. SE runs through Sunday, Sept. 6. It's the building's annual deep-cleaning and maintenance period, according to the town's Parks and Recreation page. The timing lands just as Fairfax County Public Schools students head back to class, cutting off after-school drop-in gym access for basketball, pickleball and volleyball right when families settle into fall routines.

The Town of Vienna announced the closure on X on Sunday, Aug. 23, one day before the shutdown began.

During the maintenance period, the lobby and restrooms remain open on a reduced schedule:

• Monday–Friday: 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
• Saturday: 8 a.m.–3 p.m.
• Sunday: closed

That's a sharp cut from normal hours, which run until 10:30 p.m. on weekdays, 9 p.m. on Saturdays and noon–6 p.m. on Sundays.

Residents who registered for fall programs when enrollment opened Aug. 3 will need to wait. The fall guide from Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Herman's department lists indoor pickleball resuming Wednesday, Sept. 9, the first weekday after the maintenance window closes. Other programs are expected to restart that same week.
