Vienna's largest employer earned the top U.S. customer experience ranking across all industries, according to Forrester's 2026 Global Customer Experience Index.
Navy Federal Credit Union, headquartered at 820 Follin Lane SE with 5,600 employees on its Vienna campus, scored 81.2, the highest of any American brand evaluated in the annual survey. The index covers companies in retail, tech, healthcare and financial services. Navy Federal announced the ranking in a press release Tuesday.
The distinction is broader than previous wins. Navy Federal held Forrester's No. 1 spot among multichannel banks and credit unions in 2021 and 2022. This year, the credit union topped every U.S. brand Forrester measured, regardless of sector.
Navy Federal has been headquartered in Vienna since 1977 and is the world's largest credit union, serving 15.3 million members with $197.1 billion in assets as of the end of last year, according to its corporate fact sheet. Its Vienna workforce accounts for more than a fifth of the company's 25,300 employees worldwide, spread across campuses in Winchester, Virginia; Pensacola, Florida; and San Diego, along with 382 branches.
President and CEO Dietrich Kuhlmann, who became CEO in March of 2024, leads an organization that has never conducted a layoff in its 93-year history. The credit union instead reassigns employees to other departments when roles shift. Navy Federal also placed No. 74 on Fortune's 100 Best Companies to Work For list in 2025, a ranking it has appeared on every year since 2012.
