The National Symphony Orchestra and a roster of Grateful Dead alumni will take the stage at Wolf Trap's Filene Center on Friday, Sept. 4, for the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration. Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets start at $51.

The concert commemorates 60 years of Grateful Dead music and Jerry Garcia's influence on American rock. It arrives in a year of particular weight for the Dead community. Co-founding guitarist Bob Weir died Jan. 10 at age 78, according to Rock Cellar Magazine. His final public performance came at Dead and Company's three-day event at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco in August 2025, which was organized as a 60th anniversary celebration of the Grateful Dead.

Six musicians join the NSO for the Vienna date. Melvin Seals, longtime Jerry Garcia Band keyboardist, and vocalist Jacklyn LaBranch anchor the lineup. Guitarists Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo's Almost Dead and Grahame Lesh, son of late Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, fill out the guitar slots. Drummer John Morgan Kimock and vocalist Kanika Moore complete the ensemble.

Steven Reineke conducts the NSO. Wolf Trap's event page highlights "Dark Star" and "Ripple" among the tracks planned for the concert. Wolf Trap described the show as an all-star celebration of the Dead's musical legacy, with the orchestra adding what it called "symphonic might" to the band's catalog.

The production is touring nationally this summer. The same lineup played Philadelphia on Aug. 28 and appeared at Tanglewood with the Boston Pops earlier in the season, according to Northern Virginia Magazine.

Seals promoted the Wolf Trap date on his Facebook page, calling it a return to Vienna for the Symphonic Celebration.

Tickets are available at wolftrap.org. The Filene Center is at 1551 Trap Rd. in Vienna.
