The Committee for Helping Others is asking Vienna-area residents to donate gift cards on Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, to stock its annual Christmas Store. The store provides holiday gifts to hundreds of local families each year.

CHO will collect gift and grocery cards for Walmart, Giant, Safeway, Lidl and Target before and after Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Vienna, according to an announcement on the parish website. Cash and checks made payable to CHO are also accepted.

Donors who cannot attend may mail contributions to CHO, P.O. Box 233, Vienna, VA 22183. Checks should note "for the Christmas Store."

The Christmas Store has served 150 to 240 local families each year for more than 50 years, the announcement said. CHO, organized in 1969 according to its history page, is an all-volunteer nonprofit serving residents of Vienna, Oakton, Dunn Loring and Merrifield. It provides emergency financial assistance, food aid, clothing, furniture, Meals on Wheels and transportation.

CHO's Food Closet operates out of Vienna Presbyterian Church at 124 Park St. NE in Vienna. Its Clothes Closet is at Unity of Fairfax, 2854 Hunter Mill Rd. in Oakton. The organization can be reached at 703-281-7614.

Volunteers are needed to help collect donations during the collection weekend. Those interested can sign up through CHO's volunteer page.
