Vienna is looking for volunteers to help clean up the town after storms left downed trees and power outages across the area.

The Town of Vienna's Town Clean Up Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 12, starting at 9 a.m. at the Vienna Town Green. Volunteers will gather there before being split into groups and assigned to locations around town that need attention, the town posted on X Saturday, Sept. 5.

The town's parks and recreation department coordinates the event. The department provides supplies and assistance for volunteers throughout the day, according to the town's event page.

Pre-registration is recommended but not required, so residents who decide at the last minute can still show up at the Town Green on the morning of Sept. 12. Those who want to sign up in advance can register at viennava.gov/cleanup.

Storm damage adds urgency

The volunteer call comes just over a week after overnight thunderstorms on Friday, Sept. 4, toppled trees and power lines across Vienna. A downed tree blocked Hillcrest Drive SW, and the town reported on X that tree crews were working to remove it along with other debris.

By later that day, crews had reopened Hillcrest Drive SW, but many residents were still without power. The town said nearly 400 customers had lost electricity, with utility crews working to restore service.

DC News Now reported the storms caused damage across the region, uprooting trees, damaging homes and causing travel delays.

Town Clean Up Day gives residents a chance to pitch in on the recovery. The event is open to individuals and groups of any size.
