The Vienna Police Department's annual Cops and Kids Fun Run returns Sunday, Oct. 18, with a free, Halloween-themed morning of food, music and a one-mile run next to Vienna Elementary School.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include an obstacle course, a slide, face painting, music and dancing, police cruiser tours and the one-mile walk/run. Medals await finishers.
Costumes are strongly encouraged, the department said in an Oct. 12 post on X.
T-shirt registration is full, but the Town of Vienna said in an Oct. 12 post that anyone who wants to participate can still show up. A waitlist for t-shirts is available on the event's official website, which also notes that all attendees are welcome to join for food, fun and medals whether or not they registered.
The fun run is billed as a chance for residents to meet and interact with Vienna police officers outside of an emergency setting. The department organizes the event with help from local sponsors, which this year include Mission BBQ, Ace Hardware, Vienna Inn, Kaizen MMA, Anita's, the Vienna Rotary Club, Green Hedges School, Fisher Custom Homes, Chapman Development, Sekas Homes, Trek and Vienna Singing Princesses.
The event dates to the early 1990s, according to the official site. It was shelved for more than a decade before Chief Morris assembled a team to bring it back in 2016.
Food and drinks are provided at no cost.
Residents with questions can email the Fun Run Team at [email protected]. Vienna Elementary School is located at 128 Center, Vienna.
