Borge Street Neighborhood Park in Oakton is closed for a playground overhaul, one of seven Fairfax County parks getting accessibility and equipment upgrades in fall 2026.
The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) announced the renovations in a Sept. 8 press release. The 3.6-acre park at 3030 Borge St., accessible from Jermantown Road, currently has a playground, seating and walking paths, according to FCPA planning documents. The playground is expected to reopen in December 2026.
The six other sites span the county: Bren Mar Park and Lincolnia Park in Lincolnia, Cub Run Stream Valley Park in Centreville, Loisdale Park in Springfield and two playgrounds inside Burke Lake Park. One Burke Lake playground begins construction in September 2026 and the second in November.
All seven playgrounds will stay closed through their renovations. The FCPA said most work should wrap up by December 2026.
Bond referendums fund the majority of the projects, FFXnow reported. The FCPA described the work as part of its effort to maintain park facilities and provide accessible spaces for children and families. A comparable recent project at Reston North playground on Stevenage Road cost $1.4 million, paid for with 2016 park bonds and developer proffers.
More park money could be on the way. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted June 23 to place a $180 million park bond referendum on the November 2026 general election ballot, FFXnow reported. If approved, the funds would go toward facility repairs, capital improvements, a new park and added amenities such as playgrounds, trails, splash pads and a skate park.
