MOSS Building and Design is scheduled to cut the ribbon Thursday at its new headquarters at 108 Church St. NE in Vienna. The ceremony brings roughly 50 employees and a $1.68 million property investment to the Church Street corridor.
The home-remodeling firm, which operated out of Chantilly's Lafayette Business Center for years, purchased the 1922 building on Feb. 13 for $1.68 million, according to Fairfax County property records cited by FFXnow, which first reported the move. The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 5 to 6 p.m. at the building, which MOSS calls the Vienna Architectural Design Center.
The two-story structure most recently housed Diamond Spa, which had occupied the space since October 2007 before closing earlier this year. Owner James S. Moon sold the property to MOSS, county records show.
The change is visible from the sidewalk.
The exterior renovation went through the Town of Vienna's Board of Architectural Review. TysonsToday reported the finished look includes white siding, black trim and a black awning, with James Hardie siding, Pella windows and doors, new roof shingles and gooseneck lighting.
MOSS CEO Paul DesRoches II said in a press release that the company wanted "a space that feels more intimate, inspiring and reflective of the design experience we create for our clients."
Town of Vienna Director of Economic Development Nicole Toulouse said the investment strengthens the town's commercial districts, according to FFXnow. Mayor Linda Colbert said in a town press release that she was "thrilled to welcome MOSS Building & Design's new headquarters to Vienna as they celebrate 25 years in business."
The move marks a milestone for the firm. Jason Hampel, a former ExxonMobil employee, and his father, Pete Hampel, founded MOSS in July 2001. The company name honors Jason's grandfather, Paul "Moss" Hampel, whose advice helped push him into business for himself.
MOSS serves homeowners across Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County, Md. The company reports more than 7,200 homes remodeled and says it completes about 100 high-end projects a year. Qualified Remodeler ranked MOSS No. 121 on its list of the top 500 U.S. remodeling companies and awarded the firm a bronze 2026 Master Design Award for a home addition in Great Falls.
