At least eight Vienna-area arts organizations will receive operating support grants from ArtsFairfax in fiscal year 2027, part of a countywide pool of $601,900 split among 65 nonprofits that the county's arts agency announced Thursday, Aug. 13.

Two local groups landed in the top funding tier. 1st Stage and Traveling Players Ensemble, both Providence District organizations, each received awards in the $25,000-to-$55,000 range. ArtsFairfax did not release exact dollar amounts for individual recipients.

Five more Vienna-area organizations received smaller grants. The Vienna Choral Society, Vienna-Falls Chorus and Virginia Chamber Orchestra were placed in the $1,000-to-$5,000 tier as Providence District recipients, according to Patch. In the Hunter Mill District, the Vienna Jammers Percussion Ensemble landed in the $5,000-to-$10,000 range, while the Vienna Arts Society and Vienna Community Band fell in the $1,000-to-$5,000 tier.

The total allocation grew by $10,000 over FY26, and nine more organizations received grants than last year.

But demand far outstripped supply. Applicants requested more than $1.4 million, an increase of $215,000 over the prior year's requests, meaning the agency could fund less than half of what groups sought.

ArtsFairfax President and CEO Stuart Holt said in the announcement that the agency's own fundraising enabled the increase, noting it raised $10,000 in new funds for operating grants while keeping its own overhead minimal. A separate $10,000 in fundraising was earmarked for Project Support Grants.

The 65 recipients span all nine Fairfax County magisterial districts plus the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. They include 31 small organizations with budgets below $100,000 and 34 medium or large groups. Four organizations received an ArtsFairfax operating grant for the first time.

Beyond operating support, ArtsFairfax plans to distribute $170,000 in Project Support Grants in fall 2026 and $40,000 in Ticket and Participation Subsidy Grants available on a rolling basis through June 30, 2027. The agency's total FY27 grant spending will reach $816,900.

Local arts nonprofits interested in the remaining grant programs can find application details on the ArtsFairfax website. Ticket and Participation Subsidy Grants remain open until funds run out or June 30, 2027, whichever comes first.
